Praia Grande is located in the parish of Ferragudo, in the municipality of Lagoa, in the Algarve, in Portugal. This beach is located in the estuary of the river Arade at the entrance to the port of Portimão, east of the Castle of São João de Arade. Like other beaches in the western Algarve, it is surrounded by carbonated cliffs originating in the lower myocene, very rich in marine fossils.
